The Israel Green Movement
Posted December 1, 2008
Just back from a landmark vote of the Israel Green Movement, which is fielding a Knesset list for the Feb. 10, 2009 elections. With just 900 members–although growing quickly–a range of political parties have approached IGM to run together. The most serious effort to date was by the New Movement, which is an expanded and reconstituted Meretz, which offered several seats to our leaders. The members met in a hugely democratic, Young Judaea-style asefa with break out groups, and voted 22-74 to reject the offer. This doesn’t mean there wont be better terms in the future, but the movement is starting to show maturation and confidence, while maintaining an openness to better offers. To join, please go to www.yeruca.org.il. This is the engine of the power; speaking of power, the movement may have the most well-developed energy platform of all the political parties running…:-)
