Jpost Promotes Ministry for Peoplehood

Posted February 28, 2007

In today’s lead house editorial, the Jerusalem Post says that “The Jewish State needs to be committed to Jewish peoplehood.” And it calls for a cabinet-level position to be created for dealing with world Jewry.  (Tnx to A.D.for finding the link)

Dear Friend,

With Passover coming just around the corner, we hope that you will buy and promote the unique, hand-made products of Adisia, a project that preserves the heritage of Israeli Ethiopian women embroiderers and helps them support their families.

Not only are our products beautiful, they will also add special meaning to your seder: the immigration of Ethiopian Jewry in the past few decades constitutes the most dramatic Jewish exodus to The Land of Israel in recent times. An Adisia product at your seder table is the perfect opening to a learning moment on the meaning of the seder admonishment to each of us to re-enact the exodus “as though we came out of Egypt.

The Charles Bronfman Humanitarian Award will be announced for a Jewish leader under 50, along with $100,000 in prize money.  (no, not me…)  Last year Alon Tal, formerly of Kibbutz Ketura, took home the prize for his leadership role in environmentalism in Israel. The first year it was Jay Feinberg, who created the Jewish bone marrow database and has saved thousands of lives.  I’m hoping this year it is a woman, which would be a first for the three year old prize. Good luck everyone!

It’s a great tribute to Charles that his children created this legacy.

Come to Ketura!, June 6-28

Keren Kolot’s Educational Philosophy

The Keren Kolot Jewish Studies program is based upon the belief that the classical Jewish sources belong to all of the Jewish people, regardless of an individual’s religious affiliation or background. Our approach aims to reacquaint Jews with Jewish sources, in an open, non-exclusive environment.  Participants are challenged to come to grips with their Jewish identity, both intellectually and spiritually, within the context of modern culture and society.  Furthermore, our program emphasizes outdoor experiences as a means of deepening our connection and commitment as Jews to our natural environment.  Israel is the natural setting for the exploration of issues of Jewish identity and heritage.  During the course of our program each participant is encouraged to discover his or her own relationship to Judaism, the Jewish People and the Land of Israel.

Or Rose, on divesting from Sudan

As a former leader of the divestment campaign from South Africa, I think this, as well as companies doing business in Iran, is ripe and should be supported.

JTA has told the papers that the “Darfur Exodus to Israel” expose is coming soon. Stay tuned….
